Scary Findings: HIV could lead to Cervical Cancer
In a recent research study done by Hyppolite K. Tchidjou,at University Department of Pediatrics at Bambino Gesu Children’s hospital in Rome, published in the journal ‘Advances in Infectious Diseases’ 2013 vol. 3 by Scientific Research. They have revealed that young women carrying the HIV virus are much more likely to contract HPV infections compared to healthy women. As a lot of us are now aware, HPV is known to be the main cause of cervical cancer. Their research results indicate that women with HIV infection had both higher risks for HPV infection as well as lower CD4 cell count. Observed HIV infected women had 11%-60% higher numbers with cervical tumors than healthy subjects. Of course all women should take regular precautionary tests for HPV, but young women with HIV should be especially conscious of taking the HPV Pap test screening as well as the vaccinations considering that their immune systems have a harder time fighting off these infections too.more>>
