Private security guards work with the police department to counteract crime and terrorism. They became a necessity at the present time since issues of security have an increasingly important impact on the public awareness. Private security can be provided by contract guard agencies, in-house guards or both.
The article “Applications of Forensic Science in Private Security” by Danielle Sapse from John Jay College of Criminal Justice (Department of Law, Police Science, and Criminal Justice Administration) published in the Beijing Law Review (Vol.4 No.4 2013) gives a description of the methods of forensic science as used in the private security business.
Forensic science applies scientific methods to the solving of crimes. These methods include fingerprinting, drug analysis, DNA (Deoxyribonucleic Acid) studies, ballistics, arson and explosive investigations, and studies of glass fragments.
Fingerprinting and urine, saliva, or hair analysis for the presence of drugs are essential for the hiring of private security guards in order to establish their suitability for the position. Such information can also be useful in determining if a candidate for a guard position was ever convicted of a felony which would prevent his or her being hired as a guard.
School readiness is typically defined in terms of a child’s cognitive skills, but also includes the child’s capacity to regulate emotions and be able to show positive social interactions and cooperation in the classroom. Nevertheless, most preschool curricula focus primarily on building the child’s cognitive skills. The current emphasis on children’s academic preparedness continues to overshadow the importance of children’s social and emotional development for school readiness (Raver & Zigler, 1997). Over the past 20 years, researches have demonstrated that children’s emotional and social skills are linked to their early academic standing (Wentzel & Asher, 1995).
The aim of this study was to determine the relationships between prekindergarten students’ social and emotional development and later academic achievement. The results show obviously that there is a greater association between social-emotional development and academic achievement in elementary school, especially during the first three years. There were great impacts of social-emotional factors such as interaction with the persons around, experience, recognize and express emotions properly and the ability of self-regulate emotions on academic success in the first and second grade. Factors like experiences recognize and express emotions properly and the ability of self-regulate emotions show high relationship level with academic success also in the third grade.
We all agree that children need a combination of intellectual skills, motivational qualities, and social-emotional skills to succeed in school (Thompson, 2002), and the variations in social competence rests in the quality of children’s preschool experiences. Learning is a social process, learning social and emotional skills is similar to learning other academic skills and despite the place where children are, home, preschool institution, center care, it’s too important that parents and pre-school teachers to support children social-emotional development and to work closely together for the benefit of the child. If we expect children to enter school “ready to learn” they must have the underlying security and emotional foundation for that learning. Social-emotional development is too important to be left to chance. View Original Post, please click here. In 2013 next to Botox, Injectable fillers are the most popular cosmetic procedure in the United States. As the father of this field the public, physicians and nurse injectors are often unaware of the problems that can occur with certain agents. British Plastic surgeons in 2012 reported a dramatic rise in botched filler procedures resulting in lifelong disfigurement. Half of surgeons reported seeing patients with serious complications from permanent or semi-permanent fillers. Of these, 84 per cent required corrective surgery or were deemed untreatable .<
The cosmetic literature in the United States is largely written by physicians who are consultants to drug companies and the literature fails to reveal that reactions to certain agents can occur years after implantation. The products one should avoid include Artefill® or Artecoll®. This product is a permanent injectable composed of Plexiglas beads. It has long been associated in the worldwide literature with scarring, disfigurement and even blindness. While the lumps can be cut out the blindness can be permanent.
Sculptra is a semipermanent injectable form of poly-l-lactic acid. Poly-l-Lactic acid works by causing an allergic reaction under the skin not by causing collagen production. Severe reactions have been seen that began 6 years after injection Prior to USA approval a European literature did exist on Sculptra showing severe problems,

Agro-based clusters are becoming a competitive factor for the agriculture in the 21st century to address globalization, high-value production, distribution and packaging innovation, and more efficient production.
However, building agro-food clusters in less developed regions is more challenging. The roles of multilateral institutions, national and local governments and over-arching institutions are much needed to provide focus and support in the development process.
In Meilian Yu’s research paper from Shanghai Academy of Agricultural Sciences, China, published in Agricultural Sciences 2013 vol. 4 by Scientific Research Publishing. By analyzing two cases of agro-based clusters, vegetable cluster in Shandong Province, flower cluster in Yunnan Province, it is found that the governments at various levels and the establishment of market system have played important roles in the development of agricultural clusters.
Along with the development of agricultural economy and the change of agricultural development mode, the phenomenon of clustering of agricultural industry has emerged in many places in China. However, the development of agricultural clusters in China is still at the initial stage.
The strategy of further developing agricultural clusters can make important contribution to the prosperity of rural economy and regional economy. It can be foreseen that in the future the agricultural clusters in China will be optimized in scale and structure, operation mechanism, technology enhancement, and resource mobilization. Processing waste material from the peanut blanching industry can be treated to remove compounds that have health promoting properties
Peanuts are consumed worldwide and prized for their delicious flavor when roasted and well as providing a source of valued cooking oil. As part of their processing for food, the paper like red skins are first removed and treated as waste. This material, referred to as testa or “skins” is a source of polyphenols, which are compounds that have been shown to have antioxidant activity in chemical assays. Research was conducted by Wanida Lewis, a doctoral student in the Department of Food, Bioprocessing and Nutrition Sciences at North Carolina State University under the direction of Lisa Dean and in cooperation with the Market Quality and Handling Research Unit of the United States Department of Agriculture Agricultural Research Services was published in the journal, Food and Nutrition Sciences, in 2013, vol. 4 by Scientific Research Publishing(View Original Post). Her study used aqueous solutions of acetone and ethanol to recover the polyphenols from peanut skins obtained from local peanut blanching facilities. After freeze-drying to aid storage and handling, the extracts were tested using ORAC assay to determine antioxidant activity. It was found that the antioxidant activity of the extracts was higher than many food products such as berries and nearly as high as antioxidant spices such as cinnamon. These extracts were then added to RAW 264.7 cells in culture that have previously been challenged with lipopolysaccharide to induce inflammation. Both prostaglandin and nitrous oxide production was reduced in the treated cells compared to untreated controls indicating the addition of the extracts reduced inflammation.
This work shows that peanut skins which have little economic value to the food industry, are a source of valuable polyphenol compounds which can be used as antioxidants and can reduce inflammation in living cells.
THE TIME EVOLUTION OF THE URBAN AREA OF THE CITY OF MANAUS SINCE 1973;
This article reports an enhancement in lightning activity in the city of Manaus, located in the central part of the largest tropical forest in the world, and shows strong evidence that it is related to the urban heat island effect. This is the first evidence that urban effects play a significant role even in the Amazon rainforest. The effect of the urbanization on lightning activity has a potential impact on climate changes.
The subject is of general interest since the effects of urbanization on climate has received an increasing attention in the climate change research. Urbanization has an increasing contribution to anthropogenic climate forcing, since more than half of the world’s
MAP OF THE APPARENT MEAN SURFACE TEMPERATURE ANOMALY (IN ˚C) IN THE REGION OF THE CITY OF MANAUS FOR THE PERIOD OF AUGUST AND SEPTEMBER, 2009. THE CONTOURS OF THE NEGRO AND SOLIMOES RIVERS AND THE URBAN AREA OF MANAUS IN 2009 ARE ALSO INDICATED.
population lives in urban regions, and this proportion is expected to go up to more than 60 percent by 2030. At the same time, the Amazon region is one of the three “lightning chimneys” of the world, so that any effect observed in this region may have a direct influence on the global lightning activity and, in consequence, on the climate system.
The aim was to investigate climate change-related concerns, beliefs and emotions in different groups of individuals. A total of 1,000 households located within the City of Gothenburg, Sweden were sent a “climate survey”. They were randomly identified from a population register. The questionnaire was also handed out at different tourist locations to 1,000 tourists visiting the town. The survey was also sent to 30 experts (scientists working with climate and environment issues); 67 decision makers (politicians, stakeholders); and 156 members of the tourist industry (hotels, museums, theatres, amusement parks, hauliers, conference centres, event companies, etc.).
(1) Experts were shown to be least concerned for and afraid of climate change impact; (2) Youngest participants were found to be most, and oldest least, concerned for their future; (3) Women were shown to be more concerned for and afraid of the consequences of climate change; and (4) Men and the least educated participants believed their jobs to be more threatened by the environmental laws and protection, and the latter ones believed moreover that the claims about climate change are exaggerated.
Accordingly, when fostering sustainable behavior, policy support and commitment to protect the environment, we have to take into account this diversity in value orientation and environmental risk-related emotion and awareness found in different groups of individuals.
Depression has been well known as a risk for suicide attempt, and depression also has been known to produce insomnia. In this context, the relation between sleep and suicide has long been discussed via depression. However, poor sleep quality has been found to increase the risk of suicide, and depression was not accounted for when examining the association between sleep and completed suicide. In the current 24/365 society, sleep less society or sleep ignored society, we should learn about the direct relationship between sleep and suicide. Interestingly, recent development of neuroscience has revealed the involvement of serotonin as well as oxytocin on suicide and sleep.
Also, suicide has often been discussed in the context of economical status. However, unfortunately, the recent economical status could not fully explain the changes of the number of suicide. However, please pay attention to economical problems in the 24/365 society. Sleep loss impairs brain functions. Because late sleep onset can reduce sleep, sleep/circadian rhythm disturbance spreading in the 24/365 society may cause brain impairments. Dr Kohyama emphasized the risk of 24/365 society with paying special attention to the personal as well as social tragedy of behaviors; suicide.
Finally, Dr Kohyama proposed four factors to prevent suicide; 1) sufficient sleep durations, 2)activation of serotonergic system, 3) activation of prefrontal cortex, and 4) activation of the oxytocinergic system. To secure good sleep health, five principles are proposed; 1) exposure to morning light, 2) exercise during the daytime, 3) dark night, 4) regular meals, and 5) avoiding substances that disturb sleep. To raise brain serotonergic levels, positive happy mood induction, exposure to solar irradiation, exercise (rhythmic movements) are important. Grooming, gentle touches and social interactions may activate both prefrontal cortex and oxytocinergic system. Microblog, is a platform based on user relationships for sharing, transmitting and acquiring information, on which users can establish individual communities, update information with around 140 characters and achieve realtime sharing via WEB, WAP and a variety of clients [1]. As the development of WEB2.0, microblog, which is a booming information communicating platform, develops rapidly. Since there are a large number of active users and hotspot information, the influence of microblog on information transmitting, the change of living habits, et al., cannot be ignored. While microblog users’ influence refers to as a user’s influence in the microblog community. The greater the influence is, the more attention the netizens pay to, and then impact on network will become remarkable. So microblog possesses vast potential for future development theoretically and practically, especially in the field of word of mouth marketing, information mining, public opinion controlling and so on.
At present, many scholars have started to pay attention to and study the microblog or twitter (in China, microblog is ordinarily called, so in the context “microblog” is used) all over the world. Also, the hot areas of these researches include the motivation and behaviors of microblog users, besides microblog social network structure. The evaluation of microblog users’ influence (microblog influence) has also become a new research focus in the analysis of the social network. Foreign studies mainly discuss Twitter, which is considered as the pioneer prototype of microblog. In addition, AKSHAYJAVA et al. (2007) [2] studied the data sets of Twitter from 1st April 2007 to 30th May 2007 and found that the main types of user intentions are: daily chatter, conversations, sharing information and reporting news. Then, they analyzed the microblog network on the growth, degree distribution, geographical distribution of Twitter users, and so on. Besides, TEUTTE (2010) [3] analyzed Twitter from network dynamics, including the description of the microblog network’s changes by the growth of in degree and out degree, network density, betweenness and so forth. KRISHNAMURTHY et al. (2008) [4] explored the structural characteristics of microblog network, and identified distinct classes of microblog users and their behaviors. Meanwhile, Chinese scholars mainly apply their minds to hotspot discovery in microblog network, propagation mechanism and user behavior characteristics. Caishuqin, Zhangjing (2012) [5] designed some metadata models for micro-blogging content through the structured metadata acquired from open APIs. And the hotspot discovery process was regarded as a value-added process of the original materials to clusters of hot products. Finally, a complete production and processing model was established.
However, there are a few academic researches on microblog users’ influence presently. GABRIEL W (1994) [6] made an evaluation of Twitter users’ influence learning from PageRank algorithm and considered the number of friends to be an important indicator of users’ influence. In other words, it means that the more the friends are, the bigger influence it has, and the more easily it has effects on others. Furthermore, the basic equations are consistent with PageRank algorithms. However, when taking into account the situation in China that a large number of microblog fans are traded, the model is not fully applicable. In fact, YUTO Y (2010) [7] proposed TU Rank (Twitter User Rank) based on User-Tweet Graph to rank the users, which laid a lot of emphasis on the quality of the content, while the influence of fans’ retreating was ignored. KLOUT [8], a famous assessment service on the influence of social network sites, uses the relationship among Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter, and the user behavior (initiating a session, comments, forwarding, etc.) data. Assessing the users’ influence by Klout algorithm, Klout believes everyone has influence on the era of social media. Also, Klout measures your influence in the social networks, and give the insight into whom you do effect on and on what topics you are affected. Klout measures your influence index on a scale of 0 – 100. Kang (2011) [9] advanced a new algorithm to evaluate the influence of nodes in microblog social network through the users’ behavior and relationship based on the SINA microblog. They considered the frequency of posting microblogs as a factor to evaluate the users’ activity and presented Behavior-Relationship Rank algorithm after combining the users’ activity with PageRank. But they only took into account the frequency of posting microblogs as a factor to evaluate the users’ activity without referring to interaction behaviors such as the users’ mentioning friends, commenting, and forwarding microblogs etc., which also have effects on users’ influence.
In Lijuan Huang, Yeming Xiong‘ research review from School of Economics and Management, Xidian University, published in Advances in Internet of Things Journal 2013 Vol. 3 by Scientific Research Publishing, This paper explores the uses’ influences on microblog. At first, according to the social network theory, we present an analysis of information transmitting network structure based on the relationship of following and followed phenomenon of microblog users. Informed by the microblog user behavior analysis, the paper also addresses a model for calculating weights of users’ influence. It proposes a U-R model, using which we can evaluate users’ influence based on PageRank algorithms and analyzes user behaviors. In the U-R model, the effect of user behaviors is explored and PageRank is applied to evaluate the importance and the influence of every user in a microblog network by repeatedly iterating their own U-R value. The users’ influences in a microblog network can be ranked by the U-R value. Finally, the validity of U-R model is proved with a real-life numerical example.
Table 2. U-R model calculation example.
Table 3. U-R model calculations.
In microblog networks, the description of friend relationship varies with service providers. For instance, when we use SINA microblog, the relationship is “follow and followed”, while using Tencent microblog, it is “listen and listened”. In this paper, we adopt the “follow and followed”, shown inFigure 1. For example, if user A follows user B, A is a Follower to B, whereas B is a Followee to A.
THE DESCRIPTION OF MICROBLOG NETWORK RELATIONSHIP.
Currently, microblog is the most popular online social network, for it has not only the characteristics of the social network, but also clear ones of media, it is also called “social media”. View All Papers, please click here
Yoghurt has been increasingly popular in many parts of the world, especially in Europe, North America and the Middle East. The great volume of consumption and popularity of yoghurt especially among women, children and teenagers stems from its nutritional and health benefits.
Although the origin of yoghurt is not definitely known, historical records indicate that the origin of yoghurt was in the Middle East and it was first made by Turks when they were in Middle Asia and it was named as ‘‘yoghurt’’. Today, the product has gained international recognition with this word, and many other countries use ‘‘yoghurt’’ or “yogurt”.
In the Turkish commercial markets, set-style yoghurts account for almost 100% of consumption. In set-style yoghurts, fermentation takes place in the final pots, so they are subjected to less industrial handling, and the possibility of contamination become low. In Turkey, yoghurt is one of the highest volumesproduced among all dairy products, which is 1,010,000 tons/per year (FAO, 2006). The consumers look fordifferent brands of yoghurts for a variety of different flavor and texture. However, few studies have been conducted on characterization of nutritional and chemical specifications of different commercial yoghurt products sold in Turkey.
Thestudy wasconducted to: (1) determine basic nutrient composition and some physicochemical characteristics of commercially marketed Turkish yoghurts, (2) quantify volatile compound and free fatty acid compositions of the products, and (3) evaluate the relationships among the tested parameters.
In general, overall quality and properties of yoghurt are affected by acidity level, free fatty acid content, production of aroma compounds (acetaldehyde, diacetly, acetoin), sensory characteristics, and nutritional values.
Streptococcus thermophilus and Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp.bulgaricus are the two typical strains used for yoghurt production. The two main roles of these starter bacteria in yoghurt manufacture are milk acidification and synthesis of aromatic compounds. Flavor compounds that contribute to the final aroma of yoghurt may be divided into four categories: non-volatile acids (lactic or pyruvic), volatile acids (butyric or acetic), carbonyl compounds (acetaldehyde or diacetyl) and miscellaneous compounds (amino acids or products formed by thermal degradation). These flavor compounds of yoghurt are influenced by the chemical composition of milk base, processing conditions (e.g. heat treatment, homogenization), the ratio, activity and strains of starter culture used, and incubation period for the yogurt manufacture.
Statics is a part of mechanics. Mechanics is a part of fundamental physics. Until recent times, the latest discovery was made in statics in the 3rd century BC by Archimedes, who discovered the “Law of Archimedes” for the force, acting on a body immersed in a fluid. After Archimedes during 2000 years whole scientific community considered statics as “dead section” of physics, in which the discovery is no longer possible.
In this article, the author reports about the discovery in statics, which was made by him in 1989. This discovery relates to the statics section called “static cable nets.” In fundamental physics this section was not been registered yet, although the need for its official registration already overdue.
Thanks to the made by the author discovery, we are able to create an endless series of different closed cable structures. Cable – it is the ‘rope’. Namely due to this, all large-size structures, created on the basis of the discovery, eg for space, has no any analogues in the world in the sense of their simplicity and low cost of manufacturing and installation. Very soon humanity will begin to create the long-term habitable space bases in near and outer space, as well as on the surfaces of other planets. In this direction, the structures of engineer Makarov (see, for example, the section “Space Architecture” http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Category:Space_architecture),
SPACE ARCHITECTURE
which he creates on the base of the law, he discovered, can be very, very popular. Discovered law also allows to build the long-term «multi-storey space hotels» (http://www.slideshare.net/segrim/space-hotel-eng1). The urgent need to realize them is grasped now for many “space race” participants.
It remains to add that the law, discovered by the author, allowed him to establish a series of new architectural directions at the earth architecture (http://hammer.bas.lv/mid_22.htm).
NEW ARCHITECTURAL DIRECTIONS AT THE EARTH ARCHITECTURE
This section is also waiting for the followers among modern young architects.
Are you tired of applications doing things you didn’t ask them to do and showing information in the way you don’t like? There is a way to give you the full control over applications.
Developers of the programs declare all the time that they are providing you with the best possible programs and that their programs are doing exactly what you need. But when you try to do anything, you immediately find out that there is a very strict set of possibilities and you can do only whatever was approved by developers. While working inside applications, you can’t even move the screen objects around and give them the sizes and positions you prefer. With an easy finger touch you can do everything on your cellular phone, tablet computer, or any other new device. Can we work in the same easy way inside all the programs on our PCs?
Any application must have a nice design and usually it is designed in such a way but for some hypothetical average user. If you make all screen elements movable and resizable, then each user can easily change the view of a program in any way he wants and at any moment. This movability of elements doesn’t change their functionality and doesn’t require an addition of some new visible details. You simply know that any element, regardless of its geometry, can be moved by any inner point, resized by border, and it will continue to work correctly.
With the help of a mouse, users can directly manipulate all the screen elements. This changes not only the view of programs but the way users deal with PCs. As a result, users get the full control over the applications they work with.
Boxing Performance May Benefit from Pertaining of the Boxer to a Given Zodiacal Sign
The aim of the present study is not to provide the reader with a proof of The present study has been undertaken in the aim of providing the coach with an original tool for identification of the candidates more advantaged than others to boxing practice, in the case that the coach has too numerous candidates to deal with. Microsoft Office Excel 2007 program has been used in the analysis of data gathered from BoxRec.com, the web based database, about the World top 100 male boxers BoxRec.com-rated, retired on March 26th, 2013. The study has shown that boxing performance may be influenced by pertaining of the boxer to given zodiacal signs:
1) Regarding all victories pulled together, the most disadvantaged are Sagittarius signs. As other zodiacal signs related to the element Fire, they probably rarely display tactful behavior. Their resulting impulsiveness may make them neglectful of their defense.
2) Regarding all losses pulled together, the most disadvantaged are Aquarius signs. As other zodiacal signs related to the element Air, they probably think too much before they act; and they tend to rise above conflict and to float around it. All that may affect negatively their attack velocity and defense velocity.
3) Regarding non-KO victories and KO losses, the most advantaged are Scorpio signs. Contrary to other Water signs which are used to detest all form of conflict, they often seek out challenges and problems, subliminally realizing that such challenges call forth their greatest strength and resources. That may probably help them not to neglect their attack, what is expectable in other Water signs.
4) Regarding all victories pulled together, all losses pulled together, and non-KO losses, the most advantaged are Virgo signs. Regarding KO victories, the most advantaged are Taurus signs. As other Earth signs, when driven back against a wall, Virgo and Taurus signs are capable of hitting the obstacle hard with full force. That is particularly true of Taurus, the fixed Earth, who will never seek out conflicts but who is capable of surprising power. The known soundness of Earth signs may help Virgo and Taurus signs to control both their attack and defense actions, performing them only when they feel that they are going to be successful.
5) Regarding boxers life spans, the most advantaged are Libra and Sagittarius signs.(In André Mukala Nsengu Tshibangu‘ research, published in Advances in Physical Education Journal 2014 Vol. 4 by Scientific Research Publishing, View Original Post, please click here) Zodiacal signs and KO losses Elements and KO victories Zodiacal signs and all victories pulled together Elements and all losses pulled together Zodiacal signs and life span
FINITE ELEMENT MODEL OF TYRE CROSS-SECTION IN ABAQUS.
Finite Element (FE) analysis has become the favoured tool in the tyre industry for virtual development of tyres because of the ability to represent the detailed lay-up of the tyre carcass. However, application of FE analysis in tyre design and development is still very time-consuming and expensive. Here, the application of various Artificial Neural Network (ANN) architectures to predicting tyre performance is assessed to select the most effective and efficient architecture, to allow extensive parametric studies to be carried out inexpensively and to optimise tyre design before a much more expensive full FE analysis is used to confirm the predicted performance.
Based on a series of uni-axial tests and evaluations using ABAQUS, the Yeoh hyperelastic model constants for different rubber components were obtained and listed in Table 1.

Development of New Strategy for Non-Antibiotic Therapy: Bovine Lactoferrin Has a Potent Antimicrobial and Immunomodulator EffectsThe antibiotic therapy has many problems, such as antibiotics resistance, hypersensitivity, direct toxicity, antibioticinduced immunosuppresion and super-infections. This is highlighting the need for a new strategy for non-antibiotic therapy through the use of novel immunomodulators as naturally released ones (Lactoferrin). The present study investigates the potential of bovine lactoferrin (bLf), isolated from bovine milk whey, to prevent Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus), Escherichia coli (E. coli), Streptococcus agalactiae (S. agalactiae) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aerogenosa) growth and then evaluates itsimmunomodulator effect. First, bLf isolation was attempted from bovine milk whey using a cation exchange chromatography by SP-Sepharose. Second, the antimicrobial activity assays were trailed to study the antimicrobial activity of bLf. Finally, the immune effect of bLf was studied by lymphocyte transformation test. It was found that bLf was separated around molecular weight of 80 kDa and showed significant inhibitory effect against E. coli followed by P. aeruginosa, S. agalactiae and S. aureus. bLf increased lymphocyte transformations mean values in a dose dependant manner. The highest transformations mean value was determined at 50 µg/mL. In conclusion, these results suggest that bLf is a potent natural antimicrobials and immunomodulator agent.
Phantom Limb Pain (PLP) is a phenomenon commonly observed in patients who underwent limb amputation. It is a sensation of pain in the anatomical location of the absent limb, which the patient feels is frozen in a specific position. In the process of coping with the pain many psychological factors may play a part in reducing the agony.
In her research, Professor Daniella Margalit, from the Department of Orthopedic Rehabilitation, ShebaMedicalCenter, Ramat Gan, Israel and the Department of Psychology, ArielUniversity, Ariel, Israel, studied a group of patients who went through lower limb amputation at two points during the rehabilitation process. Findings, published in the Open Journal of Orthopedics2013 vol. 3 Scientific Research Publishing,(View Original Post) showed an association between PLP pain and emotional coping mechanisms. In the initial phases after amputation, denial of the loss was associated with lower pain sensation, but six months later optimism was associated with less pain. Thus, denial, though often considered a maladaptive response, may be beneficial to patients at risk for PLP during the initial phase of recuperation.
Given the importance of helping patients with lower limb amputation cope with their pain, awareness of the effect of these mental processes by both medical staff and family members may enable acceptance of these processes and thus facilitate patients’ rehabilitation.
There are millions of immigrant families living in western countries who struggle to maintain their heritage language and cultural identity for themselves as well as their children. When immigrants move to the western countries their native language is often forgotten by their children and grand children.
Based on a study by Dr. Lily Halsted from the department of Psychology at Queens University of Charlotte, published in Psychology Journal 2013,Vol 4,No 9 by Scientific research publishing(View Original Post, please click here), one of the keyfactors to help preserve the heritage language in children of immigrants is family structure. Dr. Halsted in her study recruited students from five different public and private universities who responded to an extensive survey designed not only to determine the students’ competence in their second language but also to examine the structure of families who tend to bring up bilingual children.
She found that the presence of a bilingual mother is one of the key factors in having bilingual children. In addition, the presence of a bilingual father and a sister seem to positively influence the level of bilinguality in children. So having bilingual parents and a sister tend to make it much more likely for a child boy or a girl to become bilingual.
Sleep is an indispensable action and its importance has been related in many proverbs such as “the early bird catches the worm” However, there are few scientific reports on the effects of early rising.
CAN THE EARLY BIRD REALLY CATCH THE WORM
In Mayumi Watanabe’s research review from Department of Medical Informatics, Niigata University published in Natural Science Journal2013 vol.5 by Scientific Research Publishing(View Original Post, please click here). Her team compared the following four groups: early risers with short sleep (Group E-S); early risers with long sleep (Group E-L); late risers with short sleep (Group L-S); and late risers with long sleep (Group L-L) Then the number and ratio of leukocytes, body temperature, glucose and its associated hormones were studied. Compared with Groups E-S and L-S, Groups E-L and L-L showed lower glucose and cortisol levels, respectively. The results indicated that early rising might affect leukocyte subsets, and adequate duration of sleep could decrease levels of glucose via modification of the autonomic nervous system. Thus early rising with adequate sleep could be expected as anti-aging effects.
Thus, the early bird can actually catch the worm with the effects of anti-aging because early rising might affect leukocyte subsets and adequate duration of sleep and could decrease levels of glucose via modification of the ANS. To maintain adequate sleep duration, going to bed early was needed. In cases in which persons stayed up late, efforts and ingenuity to get additional longer sleep duration were necessary.
